What is AEDP?
AEDP stands for accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy. It was developed by Diana Fosha in New York to treat adults that have experienced trauma and attachment wounding. Attachment-focused therapy is rooted in understanding your phenomenological experience rather than labeling with diagnoses. Its main goal is building a secure, positive bond between not only the therapist and patient, but the patient's adult self and other parts as well. I incorporate a form of parts work called ego states therapy within a triphasic approach to trauma work.
In treatment, you will feel your feelings in the moment and process them in the presence of another. This form of guidance goes beyond witnessing to help you digest your true feelings and transform them into resilience. When we can bypass our habitual defenses, we make deep contact with what is true for you in the moment. Utilizing the theory of affective neuroscience, emotions contain critical information that allows us to access the wisdom within ourselves rather than seeking it outside of ourselves. This work is deeply relational, and ultimately it's about developing a stronger relationship with yourself.
